The Health Centre Information System (HCIS)

The UWI Health Centre , Mona Campus is our client for this project. This project was initiated a few years ago with the introduction of the Life of Jamaica Insurance Scheme for students. The system therefore had to be online to provide a way to validate students accessing the service. It later grew to a full fledged application covering many of the services offered by the Health Centre. It is currently in the final stages of implementation.

Aims of the system

• Validate staff, students and dependents re eligibility for accessing the Health Service.
• Collect data online to generate patient’s history online
• Use data collected to generate daily and periodic reports on diagnoses
• Identify areas which may need attention and generate statistics that may used for planning purposes

From the Health Service perspective:-

• Administration including Medical Records
• The Nurses Station
• Public Health
• Medical Doctors
• Counselling Unit
• and a recent addition – the Dentist’s office
